The Concept of "Mizan" in Islamic Environmental Ethics

As a group of "Muslim Environmentalists," we also took responsibility in this process. First, in 2015, we organized a two-day symposium in Istanbul before the "Paris Climate Change Conference of the Parties." We invited not only Muslim environmentalists but also environmentalists from other religions and beliefs. We prepared the "Islamic Climate Change Declaration" and announced it to the world. Later, we prepared "al-Mizan: A World Environmental Convention."

This book consists of papers presented at the "Concept of Mizan in Islamic Thought" Workshop held at Üsküdar University on February 23, 2022. The authors revised their papers in light of the questions directed at them and the contributions made, and gave them their final form.

We hope that this humble work, in its nature, will be a pioneering study on the concept of "Mizan" in Islamic Thought; and that new ones will follow it. We must never forget that God created the universe with a specific mizan, balance, harmony, and order; and entrusted the responsibility of preserving and maintaining this mizan to humanity.
